#16 OF DREAMS RECURRING IN OCCURRING DREAMS

As a child I had been plagued by a recurring bad dream. I had it once a year, every year. It involved a elevator that went down and never stopped and the air inside would become pressurized and feel thick like water on my lungs. The dream itself was terrifying, but there was also a deep feeling of dread that came from the inescapable anticipation that the dream was due to be had soon. Which was also followed by deep relief when it finally happened and was over, for at least another year.

Recently I had a dream, within which I had a longtime recurring bad dream. The "dream me" then awoke from this dream within a dream, feeling relief that the familiar terror it embodied was not real. By the time the "real me" awoke, I could not recall the nature of the recurring dream within the dream, but I am sure it was not the same I had as a kid. It didn't matter though, the deja-vu-like familiarity associated with a recurring dream and the relief it was over was still palpable.

Not sure how that informs the new mix, but I am sure it does. A few artists here, Animal Collective, the Liars, Andrew Bird and Caribou are repeat offenders of the NEIMT — their familiar sounds, burning even brighter than before. Also, many tracks are yet to be released — their appearance on the mix acting as a tender tease and glorious foreshadowing of the plentiful Fall music season, that awaits us. From the folky nuances of Blitzen Trapper and the Bowerbirds, to the symphonic warmth of White Whale and Bright Eyes latest offering. From the the fuzzed out crescendos of Electralane, Apostle of Hustle, Caribou, Crippled Black Phoenix and Panda Bear to the worldly nuances of Blonde Redhead, Talkdemonic, and Fujiya & Miyaki. All-in-all, the theme of the mix is one of fuzzy dreamlike soundscapes that comfort as much as they inspire.

#15 THE DISTANCES OF OUR CONSEQUENCES

Coming at you is a delicious set of songs collected from the last 6 months. There is a little bit of everything in here: the percussive minor keys of White Rabbits and Cold War Kids; the fuzzed-out melancholy of The Ponys, Deerhunter and Bound Stems; the lovely beats and melodies of CSS and Hot Chip; and the outright bizarre from YACHT, Of Montreal, Dungen and Oneida. Also DO NOT MISS the last song by a Japanese band called Yura Yura Teikoku. I could not get an English translation of the title but it is 7 minutes of international garagy grooviness. It's all good.
